Support the Acorn Users RC5 team:
Setting up the RISC OS RC5 Client
- First off create a new directory to store everything you'll need in, eg. "RC5".
- You will need to download the official RISC OS Client from www.distributed.net. At the time of writing you'll find the "Acorn RISC OS" client second from bottom of the page (284k download).
- Save the zip eg. "dnetc-riscos-arm/zip" to your new directory.
- Download the GUI front end from Archifishal Software, follow the links (currently "Software" in the top nav. bar and then a handful of items down the list "DNNetCGUI"). This is "Archiware" and in accordance with that license I have not linked directly to the required zip.
- Unzip the DNetCGUI to your directory of choice such that you'll have !DNetC in there (if you want the client to start automatically on boot make your directory of choice IDEFS::Wallace.$.!Boot.Choices.Boot.Tasks.<dir name>.
- Open the "dnetc-riscos-arm/zip" zip with !SparkPlug or such like and double click the directory inside that and you should see some files. There will also be a !System. Double click your !Boot (assuming new !Boot structure), click "System" to open the system merge tool and drag the !System from your RC5 client zip into it and follow the normal procedure.
- Double click on !DNetC whilst holding down the shift key. This will open the !DNetC application up and you will see some files and a couple of directories. Double click to open the "dnetc" directory, copy all the files except the !System you have just merged with !Boot from your client zip into this dnetc directory. Close both directory viewers and double click the !DnetC icon to run the GUI and client. This should launch the set-up procedure if you've never run the client before.
If you have run the client before you will know the above, to update the client just copy the contents of the client zip (less the !System update) into your !DnetC.dnetc directory. Remember not to delete your "Dnetc/ini" file as this holds all your configuration info.
